I finally made it over to Una in Portland.

After sweeping through the dress rack, I couldn't help but catch my eye wandering upward to the pottery on the shelf overhead. Sitting in rows and styled according to shape and color, the vintage vessels chanted my name. I will fully admit to being seduced and can prove it with my new pretty pairing of pots, which now find their home on my coffee table.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who can't resist.

I loved the patterned porcelain at one of the shops near our serviced apartment in Shanghai. They offered really modern, interesting patterns including a burnout lace pattern, a faux dip-dye, a collections of thin lines, as well as coral motifs. I really adore that small pitcher in the center of the photograph.

Looking for some extra Thanksgiving platters to plate up the turkey this year? I love Frances Palmer's porcelain platters, which come in a nice selection of pastels, although I'd probably just opt for the simplicity of white.

Russel Wright was certainly ahead of his time—creating and marketing a range of lifestyle products with an overarching brand persona. His line included casual tableware, furniture, and home décor to suit the needs of the modern American lifestyle from the 1920s well into the '60s. Russel and his wife Mary coined an "easy living" philosophy that was simple, "good informal living substitutes a little headwork for a lot of legwork. It doesn't need wealth, but it does take thought, some ingenuity and resourcefulness, and more than a little loving care to create a home that is really your own." For more.

His dinnerware lines are full of playful color and mix well with other modern pottery collections. I'm thinking that they'd look splendid with a few of my MUD Australia pieces.

I spent last night in Napa Valley, under the red wood trees, drinking wine and talking pottery with good friends. Seeing his mother's gorgeous collection of Bauer pottery inspired me to check out Heath ceramics, a Sausalito-based pottery company since 1948.
Perusing the simple mid-century designs in a great selection of neutral colors that mark this collection ever since Edith Heath first started her career as a potter, made me appreciate how good design transcends time and is ever functional. They have a few lines of dinnerware, including one that was inspired by and collaborated upon for Alice Waters's Chez Panisse, although my favorite is the Coupe line. I managed to pull myself away from the store with only a teapot, but I have big hopes of starting a collection of my very own.
Take a tour of the Heath kilns here.
