Mingei

Today I walked over to the Japanese Folk Craft Museum in Meguro-ku. I saw beautiful centuries-old textiles that felt surprisingly modern, wonderful ceramics, and a truly extraordinary collection of paper-maiche and ceramic dolls. The museum was put together by one of my favorite Japanese designer's (Sori Yanagi) father, Yanagi Soetsu, who is widely credited with spearheading the Japanese folk crafts movement (even coining the term "mingei" or folk crafts).

Cute cute cute! I love these Thanksgiving kids' table ideas at Fiskars.

Two pretty quilts from A.P.C.'s collaboration with Jessica Ogden and Jean Touitou who started the quilt project by taking unused archival A.P.C. fabric and turning it into limited edition bedding. I really like the patterns they chose and feel even more inspired to take up quilting. I've got to pick up some fat quarters.

Of course, I couldn't really go to Japan and not pick up a selection of beautiful washi masking tapes. Although they are becoming readily available in the states, I found a great selection to choose from at a stationery store in Shibuya station. To pick up some for yourself, click here. Or to pick up a pretty wooden single dispenser, click here or here. For a multi-roll dispenser, click here.

crayon rocks
I love these crayon rocks that I picked up for my friend's daughter H to play with when they visit for the housewarming. I think that they will fit in her hand nicely. I'm going to spread out some Kraft paper for her to go wild.
