I'm a huge fan of Ira Glass and This American Life on Chicago Public Radio. A often jokes about my terrible attempts at retelling stories from the radio show—which isn't too much of an insult, as I think it's almost impossible to relate the whole storytelling experience that the show encompasses. The subject matter is often too personal and from the point-of-view of those who have experienced the situation firsthand—it's really hard to recreate that intimacy on the fly. Nevertheless my earnest attempts have led to a couple good laughs.
I found this video of Ira explaining the art of storytelling and sharing a little insight into how long it takes to be truly good at what you do encouraging. It's kind of reassuring to hear what he says about all young creative people—designers, broadcasters, anyone really who is struggling to bridge the gap between what you have learned thus far and where your taste and ambitions lie.
