i've been searching for a gorgeous piece of fabric for the duvet in the bedroom. and in my quest, I've come across the kalamkari, which is a type of cotton textile that is hand-blocked by families in Andhra Pradesh, India.

the fabric is dipped in a bath of milk and resin, hand-drawn with bamboo sticks, soaked with vegetable dye, and then washed. the process is repeated for every color. elaborate fabrics with many colors can be dipped, dyed, and washed up to twenty times.

les indiennes, a line by mary mulcahy, is the perfect solution for the aesthetic that I'm after. it walks the line between modern simplicity and the well-crafted heirloom.
