I spent last night in Napa Valley, under the red wood trees, drinking wine and talking pottery with good friends. Seeing his mother's gorgeous collection of Bauer pottery inspired me to check out Heath ceramics, a Sausalito-based pottery company since 1948.
Perusing the simple mid-century designs in a great selection of neutral colors that mark this collection ever since Edith Heath first started her career as a potter, made me appreciate how good design transcends time and is ever functional. They have a few lines of dinnerware, including one that was inspired by and collaborated upon for Alice Waters's Chez Panisse, although my favorite is the Coupe line. I managed to pull myself away from the store with only a teapot, but I have big hopes of starting a collection of my very own.
Take a tour of the Heath kilns here.
